For the first time in its 111 years history, workers at the Workers’ Educational Association are having to take Industrial Action.
The WEA is imposing a restructure on London Region staff, without full and meaningful consultation with UNITE the recognised trade union. London Region staff have been placed at risk of redundancy and current job roles will be scrapped and replaced by new jobs, some on lower grades with less pay. If the restructure goes ahead, all staff at risk will have to reapply for new jobs with no guarantee of getting employment at the end of the process. There is no proposal to avoid compulsory redundancies. Following Unite's industrial action ballot, which returned a vote with 85% in favour of action, members will take action on October 13th, 14th, 15th, 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd.
