As you may know the Labour Party is holding a contest for its candidate for Mayor of London this year and following on from the General Election, the Labour Leadership and deputy leadership election will also take place.
For those of us living and working in London the Mayor of London, has enormous powers and influence that affect the capital and beyond. The Mayor for London has direct control over the transport system, the police, the fire brigade, housing, planning and many other areas. After 8 years of Boris Johnson breaking all his promises we cannot allow history to repeat itself.
As a Unite member you are entitled to vote but Labour recently changed its electoral system, meaning you have to register as a collective supporter for Unite to have a voice within the Labour Party, and as an affiliated supporter if you want to have a voice within the Labour Party yourself. Affiliated supporter status gives you the right to vote in Labour internal elections - to elect Labour's candidates for positions like the Mayor for London, the Chair of Transport and for Labour Party Leader and Deputy Leader.
